Recent high-level diplomatic visits to Taiwan risk rupturing permanently the U.S.’ “One China” policy. This policy is the foundation of the U.S.-China peaceful relationship. As Taiwan is the most preeminent security issue in U.S.-China relations, a miscalculation from either side, leading to a military conflict cannot be entirely ruled out.
The protest received little attention in the U.S. but was widely reported in China as evidence of “overseas Chinese” support for Beijing’s “one-China” policy.
If Trump wants to take his China policy to its logical conclusion, he should capitalize on and galvanize strategic ties with India.
Let’s get real: Taiwan has never been a part of the People’s Republic of China. Nor do most of its citizens have any interest in being part of the PRC.
