The Israeli military continues to develop some interesting gadgets for multiple battlefield objectives, most recently a robotic snake for search and rescue, assassinations, and reconnissance applications. The newest device uses a robot that looks and moves like a snake in order to stealthily slither into hostile areas or through wreckage. The snake contains a camera and microphone in its ‘head’ that feeds data to a remote center where a soldier can control the device’s actions. Future commercialization of the technology could transcend military usage and provide first responders and rescue workers with another device to assist their operations, including locating survivors in disaster situations. Still being developed, the IDF has not determined a price tag for the technology.
