Become an informed citizen! In this biweekly discussion group associated with the Foreign Policy Association (FPA), participants have the unique opportunity to discuss and debate important international current-events topics with the guidance of an experienced moderator. For a deeper understanding of the issues, background information and news are provided in the FPA's Great Decisions briefing book. Following each in-depth discussion, the class completes an opinion ballot, the results of which are published annually by the FPA. Topics to be discussed are: United Nations reform; China and India as partners or competitors; human rights in the age of terrorism; the United States and Iran; global health pandemics and security; Turkey; energy resources; and Brazil. Instructor: Adele Lander Burke—Vice President, Learning for Life, Skirball Cultural Center—has a BA in political science from Washington University, St. Louis, and an MA in education from Hebrew Union College, Los Angeles.
