Palestinian Media Watch reported that a journalist for RT TV was brought to a rocket production facility in Gaza where Fatah’s military wing, the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, was building rockets supposedly to use in the next war against the “Zionist enemy.”
According to the Palestinian journalist speaking on RT TV, “The moment the war (Gaza, 2014) ended, the Palestinian military wings renewed military production in order to replenish the stock, which was emptied during the war. We are visiting the Al-Aqsa Brigades – Al-Asifa Army (i.e., Fatah’s military wing)… where fuel for rockets and mortar shells is being produced.”
A Palestinian terrorist from Fatah stated, “We are preparing and developing rockets in the productions’ division of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades – Al-Asifa Army following the ceasefire agreement in preparation for the coming battles. During the last war, we fired rockets at the Zionist enemy. We have notified the enemy that we have many more [rockets]. We have also successfully developed the K-132 rocket, which is here beside me.”
While the fact that Hamas and the Islamic Jihad sent rockets at Israel during Operation Protective Edge is well known internationally, what is less widely reported is that Fatah members in Gaza also fired rockets at Israel. Recently, Palestinian Media Watch also reported that Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen hinted that 17 times more Fatah members than Hamas terrorists were killed in Operation Protective Edge.
“President Mahmoud Abbas said… during a meeting with Egyptian journalists and intellectuals, in Cairo… that the number of Martyrs (Shahids) from Hamas during the aggression against Gaza (i.e., Gaza war) was only 50, while 861 Martyrs fell from Fatah,” the Wafa Palestinian News Agency reported.
Additionally, the Fatah Facebook page recently declared, “Fire RPGs, launch the KN rockets (i.e., mid range rockets); Shoot, Muhammad, do not fear, Sow terror among the enemy’s soldiers …Launch your rockets,; make the sons of Zion tremble and burn.” A new Fatah video also eulogizes Muhammad Al-Za’anin, an Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade terrorist who was killed in Operation Protective Edge while attacking Israel.
In Europe and the United States, people frequently speak of Fatah as Israel’s peace partner. While it is true that Fatah remains preferable to Hamas and the Islamic Jihad, if one examines their rhetoric in Arabic and their actions, one cannot help but ponder how much Fatah is truly committed to making peace with Israel.
