Event Description

Please join the Foreign Policy Association and the Foreign Press Assocation in welcoming Mark S. Wrighton, Chancellor of Washington University at St. Louis.  Chancellor Wrighton will discuss Graying China: The Global Impact of Society and Healthcare, at the the Metropolitcan Club, at 12:00pm on October 25th, 2016.

By mid-century, China will have a large percentage of its population categorized as elderly, with the number of Chinese older than 65 expected to rise from roughly 100 million in 2005 to more than 329 million in 2050- more than the combined populations of Germany, Japan, France, and the United Kingdom, according to recent data.  This will require a huge shift in economic resources to care for millions more retirees as the proportion of working people simultaneously decreases.  This new "Greying Boom," fed in part by better healthcare extending lives, also has major ramifications for other countries with aging populations, including the United States.

This event is open to members only.  To RSVP please contact Adam Comiolo at [email protected], or call at (212) 481-8100 +215.
