Event Speakers

    • Sherry Mueller - Instructor
      President Emeritus, National Council for International Visitors

      Sherry L. Mueller, PhD has provided leadership for the National Council for International Visitors since 1996, first as Executive Director and then as President, with the NCIV Board of Directors naming Ms. Mueller President Emeritus in October 2011. Before coming to NCIV, she worked for eighteen years for the Institute of International Education (IIE), serving as Director of the Professional Exchange Programs staff. During this time, she was also an adjunct professor, pioneering the first course on public diplomacy at American University’s School of International Service (SIS). Prior to joining IIE, Ms. Mueller served as an Experiment Leader to the former Soviet Union, an English Language Officer for the U.S. Department of State, and a lecturer at the University of Rhode Island.

      Ms. Mueller is an active volunteer and has served on the boards of various nonprofit organizations, including World Learning, the Public Diplomacy Council, Friendship Force International, Business for Diplomatic Action, and the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy. She serves on the American University School of International Service Dean’s Advisory Council and the Advisory Council of the International Student House in Washington, DC. Ms. Mueller has lived in Brazil, where she taught English and in May 2001, she served as a speaker for the U.S. Department of State in Saudi Arabia, giving lectures and conducting workshops on leadership development for nonprofit organizations.

      Ms. Mueller has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Fulbright Award for Citizen Diplomacy for “lifelong contributions to global understanding and cooperation, one handshake at a time, in the Fulbright tradition" from One to World, American University’s School of International Service Alumna of the Year Award at the German Embassy, and the U.S. Information Agency's Award for Outstanding Service.

      In October 2008, Georgetown University Press released Ms. Mueller's informative career resource guide, Working World: Careers in International Education, Exchange, and Development, written with co-author Mark Overmann.

      Ms. Mueller earned her M.A.L.D. and Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. She is a native of northern Illinois.

      Director of the International Center of Worcester (ICW)

       

      Royce Anderson has served as Executive Director of the International Center of Worcester (ICW) since 1998.  Founded in 1963, ICW’s is a non-partisan, independent, membership organization housed on the Clark University campus in Worcester, Massachusetts.  Its activities include designing and implementing governmental and non-governmental professional exchange training and cultural programs, a sister cities relationship with the Russian town of Pushkin, and community-based membership and volunteer activities.  In recent years it has been active developing and facilitating cooperative programs between Russian and American universities including joint programs with Clark University, Harvard University, and MIT.  Royce has lived and worked in Russia, where he was instrumental in developing the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Pushkin (St. Petersburg) during the 1990s, and continues that relationship today.  He has lived and taught in Israel and, as a child, grew up in India.  He holds an M.Div. from Drew Theological School, an MBA from Rutgers University, and a PhD from the City University of New York with a specialization in Marketing and Consumer Behavior Research.  Prior to being full-time at ICW, he was Associate Director of Graduate Programs, College of Professional and Continuing Education at Clark University.  He has taught marketing at Clark University, Rutgers University, and Baruch College at the City University of N.Y.  He enjoys sailing, camping, and playing guitar.  He is married with one married daughter.
