Southeast Asia lies at the intersection of major economic and political interests, and developments in the region increasingly resonate beyond it. For decades, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has helped maintain a space where countries continue to engage one another, build confidence, and manage differences through dialogue. At a time when global connections are closer than ever, the region’s stability carries wider relevance for partners across the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

As the Philippines chairs ASEAN this year under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together,” it advances priorities on peace and security, prosperity, and people empowerment. Amid expanding partnerships and continued strategic competition, how can ASEAN preserve its role as a platform for cooperation? How can engagement with partners, including the United States, support a stable and rules-based regional environment while enabling growth that benefits all?

Speaking in New York, Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs H.E. Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro will share the Philippines’ vision for its ASEAN Chairship and discuss how ASEAN cooperation contributes to peace, stability, and shared prosperity across the Indo-Pacific.
