EU MP's prepared a memorandum urging the European Union to declare Hizballah a “terrorist organization.”
European deputies representing parliamentary blocs across the political spectrum have begun to collect signatures on a petition calling for the addition of Hezbollah to the terrorism list as it "constituted a direct terrorist threat to the security of the European Union."
The petition stated that Hezbollah supported groups that were classified as terrorist, such as the Palestinian Hamas and the Hezbollah-owned Al-Manar satellite station, which "broadcasts messages filled with hatred, violence and the glorification of suicide bombers."
It would be interesting to see if the EU, as a block, adds Hizballah to the terror list. The EU already put the armed wing and Imad Mugnyeh on the list. Taking in consideration that all Hizballah's branches follow the same ideology (thus share the same objectives), the fact that some European countries choose to make a distinction is odd.
On the other hand, Hizballah gained seats in Parliament and Government, and it would have been quite tricky to work with Lebanon, as a state, when a terrorist organization is part of it. Hence the hesitation to take Hizballah as a whole.
