We live in a fast paced world that few find a way to escape from, including teens, However its not about escape, but coping, and learning to deal with the stress of everyday life. There is no one that this is not important for than children and teens, but often they are the most overlooked.
Thankfully one teen himself took a giant leap and braved the publishing world to publish a self-help book just for teens. Alex Southmayd, a 12th grade student at Groton School in Massachusetts just released his first book, a self-help guide titled “Brain Snacks for Teens on the Go! 50 Smart Ideas to Turbo-Charge Your Life.” Alex knew as a teen himself, the pressures confronting today’s teens and in his book seeks to cover them all. The book, an e-book, looks at the range of pressures from time management to acne, improving SAT scores, and drugs and alcohol. Alex’s “Brain Snacks” come together thanks to a wide variety of sources, from his headmaster to the American Medical Association. The “Brian Snacks” cover four major areas of a teen’s daily life and woes — brain, body, life, and world.
While we all know as we walk down the isle of the local book store or scan the endless pages of Amazon.com, that self-help books are everywhere and while they do help…they do not solve everything. However by having a peer focused book that addresses some the simple daily stresses and obstacles of adolescence that us adults often miss, “Brain Snacks” is a welcome addition to the self-help world. On another note I for one am glad to see another young person chasing their dreams and defying the old “age rule”…your never too young and your never too old to chase a dream!
