Foreign Policy Association Hosts Former Senator Sam Nunn
The Foreign Policy Association (FPA) will host the Andrew Carnegie Distinguished Lecture on Conflict Prevention in honor of David Hamburg by Former Senator Sam Nunn, Co-chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI). The lecture will take place at the Hearst Corporation, 300 West 57th Street, on March 21st, 2016, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Senator Nunn will speak about Dr. Hamburg’s tremendous leadership over many years to prevent deadly conflict. He will also discuss what he considers potentially the most threatening conflict to the future of humankind – nuclear conflict. NTI is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that addresses the growing risk of catastrophic attacks from weapons of mass destruction and disruption – nuclear, biological, radiological, and chemical weapons and cyber.
Nunn served in the United States Senate from 1972-1996. During his tenure in the U.S. Senate, Senator Nunn served as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. He also served on the Intelligence and Small Business Committees. His legislative achievements include the “Nunn-Lugar” Cooperative Threat Reduction Program, which provided assistance for more than 20 years to Russia and the former Soviet republics for securing and destroying their excess nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.
Advanced registration is required to cover the event. Please contact Adam Camiolo at [email protected] or at 212-481-8100 Ext.251.
