Please join the Foreign Policy Association in welcoming Ed Morse, Global Head of Commodities Research at Citigroup, and Skip York, Principal Analyst, Americas Downstream, Midstream & Chemicals for Wood Mackenzie, as they discuss the future of the oil industry and its role in geopolitics. 

The panelists will discuss North America's struggle for energy independence, OPEC, and the ever-complicated international oil trade.

    • Ed Morse - Panelist
      Global Head of Commodities Research at Citigroup

      Ed Morse is Managing Director and Global Head -Commodities, Citi Research. He previously held similar positions at Lehman Brothers, LCM Commodities and Credit Suisse. Widely cited in the media, he is a contributor to journals such as Foreign Affairs, the Financial Times, the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. Dr. Morse was most recently ranked one of “The 36 Best Analysts On Wall Street” by Business Insider. In addition, he was also ranked #23 among the “Top 100 Global Thinkers of 2012” by Foreign Policy.  He worked in the US government at the State Department, and later was an advisor to the United Nations Compensation Commission on Iraq as well as to the US Departments of State, Energy and Defense and to the International Energy Agency on issues related to oil, natural gas and the impact of financial flows on energy prices. Dr. Morse is a former Princeton professor and author of numerous books and articles on energy, economics and international affairs. He also was the publisher of Petroleum Intelligence Weekly and other trade periodicals and also worked at Hess Energy Trading Co. (HETCO). 

    • Harold "Skip" York - Panelist
      Principal Analyst, Americas Downstream, Midstream & Chemicals for Wood Mackenzie

      Harold York is the Vice President of Integrated Energy in Wood Mackenzie’s Americas Research Team.  He is responsible for cross-segment integration of petroleum market and infrastructure issues for North America. With over 20 years of worldwide experience across the energy value chain, he has deep expertise in petroleum market economics and price-setting mechanisms including valuing non-fungible crudes across a number markets, NGLs, and leveraging technologies for competitive advantage.

      Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Harold worked for ExxonMobil in a variety of strategic planning assignments. He held roles as the global expert on joint He also has consulted for clients at McKinsey & Company and Charles River Associates.  Harold holds a PhD Economics from the University of Virginia, as well as a Masters of Science and Bachelor of Science also in Economics from the University of Wyoming.

    • Michael Wittner - Panelist
      Global Head of Oil Research, Societe Generale

       Mike Wittner is the Global Head of Oil Research for Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking.  Mike is directly responsible for short-term and long-term global oil market analysis and forecasting. 

      He has been ranked in the top 4 for oil market research in 2009-2015, according to Risk and Energy Risk magazines, including three consecutive years at #1 in 2013-2015.  Since 2011, Mike has also been consistently in the top 5 for crude oil price forecast accuracy in Bloomberg’s quarterly ranking of the “best forecasters of energy prices”.

      With more than 20 years of experience in oil market analysis and, before that, 8 years of experience in the geosciences, Mike has extensive knowledge of the global and regional crude oil and refined product markets, geopolitics, and non-fundamental oil market drivers.  He joined Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking in 2007 from Credit Agricole, where held a similar position.  Prior to that, he held senior analytical positions at Koch Supply & Trading, the International Energy Agency, and PIRA Energy Group.  Before getting his MBA, he worked as a geologist and project manager for an engineering firm and as an analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency.

      Mike holds a BS in Geology from Cornell University and a MBA in International Business from George Washington University.

      Mike is a regular speaker at industry conferences and seminars.  His commentaries on oil market developments are frequently quoted in the international media and he appears regularly on television news programs.  Media interviews have included CNBC, Bloomberg TV, CNN, the BBC, the CBC, the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, the New York Times, the Economist, Business Week, the wire services, and the energy trade press.                            

    • Mary R. "Nina" Henderson - Moderator
      Managing Partner, Henderson Advisory

      Nina Henderson is a Director of CNO Financial Group (NYSE) Bankers Life, Washington National and Colonial Penn insurance companies audit/risk and investment committees; a Director of Regus plc (LSE)  global office services, audit, remuneration and governance committees; a Director of Walter Energy Inc (NYSE) metallurgical coal for the global steel industry audit and environmental/safety committees.

      She served as a Director of AXA Financial and The Equitable Companies audit, investment and finance/risk committees;Del Monte Foods Company Lead Director and Chair, nominating/corporate governance committee (sold to KKR); Pactiv Corporation audit committee (sold to Reynolds Holdings); Royal Dutch Shell, plc and its predecessor company The Shell Transport and Trading Co. plc audit, remuneration and corporate/social responsibility committees; Hunt Corporation audit and compensation committees (sold to Berwind).
