The FPA is proud to present Carla Del Ponte, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal in the Hague as part of the Cyrus Vance Lecture Series.

The Prevention of Deadly Conflict series seeks to address the looming threats to world peace of intergroup violence and advance new ideas for the prevention and resolution of deadly conflict. The series will examine the principle causes of deadly ethnic, nationalist, and religious conflicts within and between states and the circumstances that foster or deter their outbreak.

    • Carla Del Ponte - Speaker
      Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal in the Hague

      Ms. Carla Del Ponte was born in 1947 Lugano (Switzerland). In 1972 she began her career in a private law firm in Lugano. In 1975, she set up her own law and notary's office in Lugano. In September 1981, she was appointed investigating magistrate and became public Prosecutor, working in the office of the Lugano district Attorney. In April 1994, Ms. Del Ponte was appointed Attorney General of Switzerland. Since 1981 Ms. Carla Del Ponte is involved in the Prosecution of organized crime, financial and other economics crimes, terrorism army trafficking, money laundering, illegal trafficking in arms, as well as international legal assistance. She studied law in Great Britain, Bern and Geneva.
